Panna

Panna National Park, located in Madhya Pradesh, is one of India’s most scenic and biologically rich tiger reserves. Spread across the Vindhyan mountain ranges, it covers around 542 sq. km of forests, plateaus, and gorges. The park is known for the successful reintroduction of tigers after local extinction in the early 2000s. River Ken flows through the park, creating stunning waterfalls, deep canyons, and diverse riparian habitats. Panna’s vegetation is primarily dry deciduous forest with teak, tendu, mahua, dhok, and kardhai trees. The park supports rich wildlife, including tigers, leopards, sloth bears, wild dogs, and hyenas. Herbivores such as sambar, chital, nilgai, and chinkara are commonly sighted.

The park is also an important birding destination with more than 200 species recorded. Notable birds include the Indian vulture, changeable hawk-eagle, bar-headed goose, and paradise flycatcher. Reptiles like the mugger crocodile, Indian python, and several lizard species thrive here.

Panna is also known for Pandav Falls and Raneh Canyon, major attractions within the reserve’s vicinity. The park’s mix of forests, riverine landscapes, and cliffs creates exceptional photographic opportunities. It is part of the Panna Tiger Reserve under Project Tiger, ensuring long-term wildlife conservation.

The Khajuraho Temples, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, are renowned for their stunning Nagara-style architecture and intricate stone carvings. Built between the 9th and 12th centuries by the Chandela dynasty, the temples depict themes of spirituality, mythology, and daily life. The complex is famous for its beautifully sculpted erotic art, symbolizing human experience and divine union. Only about 20 of the original 85 temples remain, each showcasing exceptional craftsmanship in sandstone. Located just an hour from Panna, Khajuraho is an essential cultural addition to any wildlife tour of the region.
